Every idea begins with a dot. Every journey begins with curiosity.
The Journey of a Dot
It was just a curiosity to know what shape it would become when a single dot began its journey.
Curiosity slowly transformed into observation. Observation revealed that the journey itself was finding a direction.
Sometimes it came closer, sometimes it drifted away — yet it never truly reached a conclusion.
Observation evolved into a search — a search to move beyond the familiar. There was an irresistible longing to walk back along the path once travelled, only to discover new possibilities with every step forward.
As the journey continued, the destination became less important than the desire itself. And eventually, the desire transformed into creation.
Every drawing begins with a dot.
Every idea begins with curiosity.
Every journey begins with the courage to take the first step.
- Curiosity
The dot begins its journey.
- Observation
Curiosity transformed into observation.
- Direction
Then came the realisation that it was getting a direction too.
- Closer & Away
It got closer, it got away.
- Search
Observation transformed into search, to get out of that stage.
- Desire
An eager desire to travel back the once trodden path.
- Transformation
The desire to transform the desire itself.
The artist behind the journey
The impetus for KG Manoj’s work is the world around him—its shapes, patterns, colours, textures, and the countless stories hidden within everyday life. His visual language exists at the intersection of space and time, where memories, places, and lived experiences converge into meaningful forms.
His artistic sensibility has been shaped by the enduring dialogue between his past and present. Growing up in Kerala, he was deeply influenced by the imaginative worlds created by literary maestros such as M.T. Vasudevan Nair, C. Radhakrishnan, Uroob, O.V. Vijayan, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, and V.K.N. Their stories nurtured his imagination, teaching him to see beyond the obvious and inspiring him to create worlds where observation, memory, and creativity coexist.
This literary influence continues to define his creative practice. Whether illustrating a children’s story, designing a publication, or creating a visual identity, Manoj approaches every project as an act of storytelling—where images become narratives and design becomes a language of its own.
Today, Manoj is recognised as an accomplished artist, illustrator, designer, and creative director, with a body of work spanning children’s literature, editorial illustration, publication design, branding, animation, and visual communication. Working across a wide range of traditional and digital media, he brings together artistic sensitivity and design thinking to create experiences that are imaginative, meaningful, and enduring.
Today, through The Language Mill, he creates platforms that nurture creativity, learning and meaningful conversation.
