When Language Changes, Stories Change Too

Language is never really still.

In the second session of Small Wonders, The Language Mill founders KG Manoj and Anuradha Nayar engage in a spontaneous conversation about the changing nature of language—from the literature that shaped an earlier generation to the way people communicate today, and the language that has found its place in contemporary cinema.

The conversation touches upon the shift from the more literary language once familiar in books and films to a language that is increasingly conversational, immediate and rooted in everyday expression. Contemporary movies, in particular, appear to speak in a language closer to the way people actually talk, reflecting changing social realities and new forms of communication.

The discussion is not about whether one form of language is better than another. Instead, it looks at how language naturally changes with its time, its people and the ways in which stories are told.

A small conversation about literature, communication, cinema and the evolving language of contemporary life.
